Knot Your Average Activity
by Rebekah, AHG Troop NC0800
Have you ever wanted to learn how to properly hold a compass? Or learn how to tie a durable knot that can do more than just hold your shoes together? Well, in American Heritage Girls, you can do just that! This year, our troop, NC0800, worked on our Outdoor Skills badge, to help us be prepared and ready if we ever get stuck in the woods. The Pioneer and Patriot units, more commonly known as the Pi/Pas, taught the younger units how to correctly hold a compass, safely wield a knife, and different types of lashings and when to use them. The Pi/Pas also learned about axes, hatchets, and bow saws, taking turns using a bow saw to cut a log. In addition, they built a small light tower, using only sticks, paracord, and their knowledge of knots and lashings! The Pi/Pas had an opportunity to go on a night hike at Stevens Creek Nature Preserve, as well learning about different stars and constellations. This was a fun badge to earn, and even more so with faithful friends to work on it with.
AHG does more than just badge work. We also participate in service projects, learn about God through our faith award, and have social nights that are fun for all of us. Our mission is to build women of integrity through service to God, family, community, and country. If you’ve ever wanted to learn about these things and more, you can look into joining a local troop at https://americanheritagegirls.org/.
